The Act of Notary Public Code of Professional Responsibility

In the mobile notary industry, professionalism, integrity, and honesty should always come first. Unfortunately, there has been a growing issue where some notaries pretend to be customers just to call other notaries asking about their fees, availability, and service structure. Afterward, those notaries undercut those prices in order to steal assignments. That type of behavior is not business strategy… it’s unethical competition.

As mobile notaries and signing agents, we should understand that every business owner has different expenses, experience levels, insurance costs, travel distances, certifications, printing expenses, and time commitments. In addition, a professional notary sets pricing based on the value of their service, their expertise, and the quality they bring to the client. Constantly trying to lowball or undercut another notary just to “win” a job hurts the entire industry. It also creates distrust among professionals.

What many people also fail to realize is that impersonating a customer or misleading another business for financial gain can backfire badly. In some situations, repeated deceptive behavior, harassment, false representation, or interference with another business relationship can create legal issues, complaints, reputation damage, or even loss of professional partnerships. For example, title companies, escrow officers, attorneys, and signing services pay attention to professionalism. Many companies would rather work with someone reliable and ethical than someone who simply offers the cheapest price.

Building a successful notary business is not about tearing down another notary to get ahead. Instead, it’s about creating relationships, earning trust, providing excellent customer service, being available when clients need you, and building your reputation over time. Long-term success comes from consistency and professionalism. Deception does not lead to lasting success.

There is enough work out here for everyone willing to work honestly. Focus on improving your marketing, communication, punctuality, customer experience, and reliability instead of worrying about what another notary charges. Clients remember professionalism far longer than they remember a discounted fee.

Let’s continue building this industry the right way — with respect, integrity, and professionalism.
